Size to that number with headroom for peak days — not to the bedroom count, which is the shortcut that produces mismatched systems.
We also check pipe diameter, peak simultaneous flow, and whether anyone runs irrigation off the same line. A softener that cannot pass enough flow causes pressure drops when two showers run at once.

How soon will you notice a difference?
Immediately in the shower — soap lathers differently the same day. Spotting on glass and fixtures stops within a week. Existing scale does not vanish on its own; it stops getting worse, and comes off far more easily when you clean. Water heater efficiency improves gradually as the system stops adding new deposits.
Do you install in condos and townhomes?
Yes, though it takes more planning. Properties without a garage need a closet installation, an exterior enclosure, or a compact cabinet unit, and many HOAs have rules about visible equipment. We check both the plumbing and the restrictions before recommending anything.
The 17-grain math: why Vegas softeners are sized bigger
Capacity here is arithmetic, and the arithmetic is unforgiving. A softener's grain capacity divided by daily grain load sets how often it regenerates — and Las Vegas water at roughly 17 grains per gallon loads a system about twice as fast as the national average of 7–10. A family of four using 300 gallons a day generates over 5,000 grains of hardness daily; a 32,000-grain unit that would coast for a week in a soft-water city regenerates here every five to six days under that load, and an undersized 24,000-grain unit ends up regenerating so often it wastes salt, water, and resin life. That's why our standard Vegas sizing lands one class larger than the box-store default for the same household — the water district's own quality reporting puts the hardness on paper, and the sizing follows it.

Metered (demand-initiated) heads beat clock-timer heads decisively on water this hard: they regenerate on gallons actually used, which matters in a city where landscape irrigation runs through separate lines and indoor use swings by season.
